How much does rehab cost?
According to Help.org, there is a wide range in the price tag for rehab for alcohol and drug treatment. An outpatient program can cost between $3,000 and $10,000 for 90 days. Whereas a live-in, in-patient program can cost between $5,000 to $20,000 for 30 days. A luxury program can cost up to $100,000 for 30 days of treatment.
Don’t fret too much about the price tag, there are ways to help lower the cost so your recovery doesn’t cause financial hardship as you look to beat your alcohol or drug addiction.
Does Private Insurance Pay For Rehab?
The good news is that most private health care insurance providers, such as Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and others, are required to provide some coverage for rehab for addiction. That was part of the Affordable Care Act when it passed in 2008. So, insurance through a workplace or the federal marketplace can help cover the cost of treatment.
Insurance can help pay for detox, medical care and in-patient and outpatient rehab programs.
But, the amount of coverage depends on the provider and the patient’s plan. It is best to check with your health insurance company about what they will help pay for and what your fees might be.
Federal health insurance programs Medicaid and Medicare also help pay for drug and alcohol rehab. Again, the amount can vary from state to state and a person’s plan.
Help Covering The Cost
If your insurance provider doesn’t cover a large portion of the costs, there are scholarships available through foundations and care facilities that can help pay for rehab. Many centers will help their patients pay for the cost so they can get the help they need to start a life of sobriety.
One foundation that offers scholarships is called 10,000 beds. People can apply for scholarships to get treatment for their alcohol or drug addiction. Applications open annually on the first Monday of each month from March to November.
